Thanks for your interest in EVOL Lab. We focus on empirical software engineering, especially code recommenders that help developers find and integrate relevant snippets. If a project in our portfolio aligns with your interests, call out that connection in your message.

PhD Applicants

Applicants should hold a Master's degree in software engineering or a related area.

At least one peer-reviewed software engineering publication is expected.
Shortlisted candidates complete a video call and a 10-15 minute research presentation.
Evaluation includes a paper review and a programming task.

Master's Applicants

Apply to UNLV first, then contact the lab with your application number.

Lab-focused applications are typically reviewed in Jan-Feb.
Shortlisted candidates are interviewed and complete a paper review and coding task.
You can also join UNLV first and identify an advisor after arrival.

What To Include In Your Email

Resume and transcripts.
A one-page essay in English covering research motivation and interests.
A brief note on your favorite programming language or project and why.
One strong learning or teaching experience.
Evidence that you reviewed the lab's recent work.
